What Is Eyelid Dermatitis?

Eyelid dermatitis is an inflammatory reaction of the skin causing irritation, redness and dryness in the eye area.

It is characterized by scaly, dry red skin.

Symptoms such as swelling, burning, itching, flaking or stinging may occur.

Eyelid dermatitis can also be referred to as eyelid eczema, periocular dermatitis or periorbital dermatitis.

What Causes Dry Skin on Eyelids?

If you do choose to wear it, opt for products that are gentle on the eyes.

“Using makeup around the eyes can irritate this sensitive area,” Dr. Engelman notes.

“I recommend using less makeupfor example, use an eyeliner pencil instead of eyeshadow.”
