What Is a Salt Scrub?
As the name suggests, a salt scrub is a physical scrub that uses salt.
Salt is a common scrub ingredient known as a natural detoxifier and for its grainy texture.
Crumm tells us you may get different benefits depending on the pop in of salt you use.
When choosing asalt scrub, look for quality, mineral-rich salts like sea, Epsom, and pink Himalayan.
These are often full of magnesium, calcium, and potassium, all of which can benefit your skin.
What Is a Sugar Scrub?
Sugar scrubsare also super popular in skincare routines, likely because they’re so nourishing.
Similar to salt scrubs, the jot down of sugar you use is important.
Salt vs. Sugar ScrubsWhich One Is Right for You?
“Consider your skin bang out,” suggests Crumm.
“If you have sensitive or dry skin, a sugar scrub may be a better choice.
For balanced or oily skin, a salt scrub can provide effective exfoliation.”
Additionally, he says to asses your skin concerns and goals.
“I do not believe in DIY recipes for skincare, scrubs or otherwise,” notes Polla.
Of course, should you experience any reaction from a DIY recipe, stop using it immediately.
Pink shared two recipes for making DIY scrubs at home.
“Use immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature, and use within seven days.”
“I prefer coconut sugar because it has more nutrients and is a natural humectant.
It is meant to be brushed onto dry skin in quick motions with your hand.
Exfoliate toward your heart to increase the blood flow.
When you’ve finished brushing, rinse the scrub off with warm water.”
Use immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature, and use within seven days."
It may be that your skin reacts wildly better to one over the other.
Additionally, Dr. Polla reminds us that exfoliation happens even without an exfoliator.
So, you might want to adjust your scrub routine accordingly.
