You have such a curated lineup of products.
Why was it time to add a cleanser to the Rhode universe?
“A cleanser was meant to be part of the lineup since the launch of Rhode.
Rhode
When we started developing everything four years ago, it was always a part of the original lineup.
“It needs to do what it says it does.
It’s meant for cleansing, taking off the makeup, keeping the skin nourished and clean.

But how do I do that and then also have it stand out?
And feel different and feel interesting?
For me, that would be the ingredient story and the texture.

And it’s just taken this long to nail every element.”
That’s where the pineapple enzyme ingredient comes in.
The texture is like nothing I’ve ever tried, almost like a balmy jelly.

What was your dream texture when formulating?
Because to me, it’s not just any other old cleanser.
This is the one that replaces all of my other ones or anything else that I’ve tried.
Rhode
I want to keep going back to it.
I want my skin to miss it if it doesn’t have it.
And that was how I really got to the final [formula].
Once I ran out of my samples, I was like, ‘No, I need it.’
I can’t live without it.
So that’s where chemistry comes in, and that’s not my job.
And then how does it break into a lather that is not too overpowering?
“It was a very fine dance of how we got there.
It’s not foaming enough.'
So, it was a really delicate space of trial and error.”
In three words, how does Pineapple Refresh make your skin feel?
“Hydrated, refreshed, and bouncy.
I think it’s interesting that a cleanser can make your skin feel bouncy.
I’ve not really experienced that many times.”
What was the biggest thing youdidn’twant from the cleanser?
Because to me, tight feels dry.
Some people like that feeling.
It does the opposite for me; it makes my skin feel tight and scratchy.
I’m very sensitive.
What are some of your favorite ingredients in the formula?
“I love thepolyglutamic acid.
There’ssea buckthorn oilin there, which is how it gets its color naturally.
The campaign is sick.
What was your inspiration?
“Because it’s our first launch in the new year, and it’s pineapple refreshed: newness.
I wanted to do something that was in nature.
Outside, refreshing sky and water.
We shot in the Bahamas, which was super fun.
I’ve always loved the Pirelli Calendar and was very inspired by calendar girls.
“That’s how we came to do this cleanser calendar, which has come out really cute.
The images are insane.
[I’m] so honored that they would be a part of this campaign.
So it’s very fun.
Do you have a special cleansing method or routine?
“Typically, I’m a double cleanser.
And that was part of the testing process for me as well.
I’m typically a double cleanser.
So it really depends on the day, but I’m a big believer in double cleansing.
Are you a team cleanser in the morning?
Or just a splash of water.
“It really depends on how my skin feels.
I listen to my skin.
I take a look in the morning and see if I feel it’s more oily.”
What are you applying right after cleanser?
“Right after cleanser on damp skin, I’m always going in with the Glazing Milk without fail.
Glazing Milk, to me, is my best friend.
And it fully brought down the inflammation.
It was really a good little routine for that.”
Do you have any other winter skincare tips or essentials?
l seal everything in at night.
So yeah, a balmy kind of sleeping mask-feeling situation.”
In the spirit of kicking off the year.
Are there any beauty trends you want to try this year?
“Oh man, have they already started?
Is there a food makeup trend that I haven’t seen yet?
Let’s do that all year; let’s try it out.
I know what works for the Hailey formula, right?
Because I’m so committed to my skincare, why wouldn’t I want that to be the center?
I just don’t like covering up my skin too much.
That’s why [I love] minimal concealer minimal [makeup].
Maybe it’s a lip color.
Maybe it’s, you know, more glam.
I don’t know what it is, but I’m open to going there.”
